Hello,

I have 5 different part numbers that are on a production line and I have
listed below one of the part numbers.

part # PPC-0013, at process #3, 2 boxes (16 pcs each box) can be kept at the
line. The production is scheduled for 81 pieces an hour.

What type of formula can be used to figure up amount of kanban cards needed
and how often to pick up the kanban cards?

A kanban card is a signaling system to trigger action such as taking
components to a production line when the production line is in need of more
components.

Thank you,

Tell us what a "kanban" card is. Otto

You may have 32 pieces at the station. 32/81 is the amount of time they
will last in the form of a decimal hour. How long does it take to send a
new box to the station from the time the cards are picked up? In round
numbers you will need to replace an empty box every 1/5 of an hour to
keep up so every 12 minutes.

The formula will depend on a lot of unstated information. I just told
you how to figure it out. One box is 16/81 hours. How many kanban cards
will you need for what? How long does it take from card pick up till box
delivered? Start by determining WHAT you need to do before you try
inserting it into Excel.

Bob,

What formula could I use in Excel without using all the verbage.
