Formula controlling format based on content of a cell

I need a formula for a cell to control its background color based on the text that paticular cell contains. To be more exact, ie: if the cell contains the name Fred, then the background should be light blue or if the cell contains the name Mary, it should be light red.
 
Worksheet functions can't affect format. Check out Conditional
Formatting in XL Help.
