forms authentication

Hi,

I was just about to build some simple authentication using a form to login
and session (i.e. session cookie) when I discovered asp.net has some
built-in forms authentication functionality

I have seen the definitions for the classes on MSDN but there don't seem to
be any good articles on how it works or how to integrate it. Any links
(MSDN) or otherwise would be much appreciated.

Also, I'd be interested to hear any opinions on whether this facility
actually offers any benefits compared to doing it myself.
