Hi,

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to format a cell so
that a negative number will automatically appear in
parenthesis. Need urgent answer please.

Highlight the desired cell, goto Format/Cell and pick
Number. Choose one of the selection on the right, either
(1234.10) in black or in red.

Hi Irl
You can use any of the numerous custom number formats, where the format style after the ; is in parenthesis. Go to Fomat>Cells>Number>Custom

Good Luck

Hi Mark,
What version of Excel, what edition (US/International/??)
and what Regional setting are using.

I think there is a setting where you don't see all the options
for number formatting. If you have to do use Custom, the following
may be of some help until you can find out what is missing. .
