Had/Have some MAJOR virus issues, need to format and make
everything new again. It seemed like the format work by
having the cd in on start up but it has just "refreshed"
things from the looks of it. All my old files and
software are still there, possibly virus infected. I have
also tried through a windows 98 bootdisk in dos to format
c: and I'm enformed that the "drive can not be locked".
Does anybody have any suggestions, please.

U should just need to insert the disk, and start with the cd. After going
through set up. delete the partion and make a new one. If you just go
through the motions with the disk durring set up. You get to the repair
portion of xp and it will reinstall xp and attempt to keep all your old
programs. So make sure u delete the partition and you should be good to go.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
