I have been working on a PowerPoint document for some time now. Suddenly,
everytime I put text within an object it comes up with a bullet and text
formatted to the right. I have tried everything to switch this off and
return to the usual formatting. Can anyone help me get back to normal? I
fear that I will have to start again

You need to reset the shape defaults. To do that.
1. Draw and format a textbox as desired.
2. Right-click on the shape and then select Set Autoshape defaults

That should do it. Now whenever you draw the shape, it will use the defaults
you set.

Try this

Select and format the text how you want. Check the text settings in FORMAT
AUTOSHAPE especially anchor point and margins. When your happy RIGHT click
on the shape and select set autoshape defaults.
