Is there a way to allow users to format text in certain areas of a form? For
example, I have a protected form for users to fill out. In one text box,
they have to be able to bold and italicize words, but that's it. I don't
want them to be able to change anything else. Is this possible?

It is not possible as you envisage. If the texts themselves are fixed, then
you could select them from a list and insert autotexts with the formatting
ready done - see http://www.gmayor.com/SelectFile.htm
