Formatting in Word

All of a sudden when I start a new document I'm able to type on the top line
but when I hit enter (return) the curser jumps half-way down the page. What
do I need to do to stop this from happening? I only want to double space and
start a new line.

In a new blank document, without making any other changes, go to the Layout
tab of Page Setup and change the vertical alignment to Top. Click the
Default... button and answer yes, then click OK.
