Odd it is!... i click on the New Mail button.. formatting is not in focus..
(which is fine at this point) However, when i click on the message body of
the new mail message,, formatting is STILL NOT in focus (which is not the way
it's supposed to function)... when i hit the return key in the message
body..the formatting goes into focus (Odd!).. i have 10 outlook apps working
properly, but this one is driving me nuts!! any suggestions would be great..
thanks..

Version of Outlook?
Word or Outlook as the e-mail editor?
Make sure you are not composing in Plain Text format.

Not Word but WordPerfect (BLAAAA, I know - he's an old timer doesn't want to
change)
i'm not sure whether he's in plain text.. if he is what is the preferable
(HTML?)..

WordPerfect cannot be set as the e-mail editor. Check; Tools-> Options-> tab
Mail Format

Plain Text by definition cannot hold any formatting.

i will check on whether it's in plain text or not..
also.. i'm assuming that since word is not installed on the desktop, under
"mail format" / "Message Format" section.. the two lines for word are not
nighlighted..

problem is that the user says that this used to work.. and now it doesn't..
another is that when he does a reply, the formatting works there.. it just
doesn't work with the "New Message".. thanks..
