formatting harddrive and reinstalling xp

caught a virus and it has messed up the xp system.
everything runs slower and it shuts down occasionally.
how can i reformat the harddrive and reinstall xp. i am
the original licensed owner of computer and xp so i have
the cd. please walk me through the process, step by step.
