Formatting hard drive

Help
I thought that I was formatting the hard drive to delete
all files and then reinstall xp
What has happened is that I have reinstalled xp but the
old files have gone to a partitioned area of my
computer. Question: how do I unpartition the hard drive
and format it and then reinstall xp cleanly

Delete the partitions the next time you re-install then define another one.
I think when you re-install, you select the partition, hit D, Enter, then L
to confirm. Then re-install the OS.

Why do you want to get rid of the partition?
personally, I'd just keep the partition and
delete all of the files on it.

I usually install my OS's on one partition, then
save all of my files on other partitions.
it's so much more tidy that way IMO.

Also, I usually keep a backup copy of the
OS on a blind ( hidden) partition. Then if
the OS ever gets virused or whacked for any
other reason, all I have to do unhide the
hidden OS and boot to it and I'm right back in
business.

You see, Viruses can't see hidden partitions,
so they remain safe AKAIK.
