Formatting field contents

I am new to Access-self taught. I enter >&\"[Red] in the design view to
change my information on a table. What came back was. SMITH STREET" in red.
How do I use the character formats: ! < > & "text' (space) \ 2 * [color]
correctly. I can't find anything that makes since or is simple to understand.

Can you explain in more details what you are doing and what is the result
your expect

Also are you working on a table. query, form, module, report, etc.
