I was given a Compaq 5415 WM x86-based PC about two years ago, which already
had XP, Home Edition loaded on it. I did not receive any system CD,
paperwork, etc., with the computer. I have donated the computer to a charity
and I need to clean everything off the hard drive before I give it to them.
Can someone please tell me how to do this, step by step, since I am far from
computer savvy? The charity will be re-loading their own software so I don't
need to worry about losing the operating system that is already installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the PC came from Compaq with XP loaded then you may be able to press F12
or F10 during boot. This should bring up a menu to restore factory settings.
Failing that you may be able to download a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com
and use FDISK to remove the partition on the hard drive.
