formatt question

P

Pammy

I have a database that is filled out by our staff, and the line of infor
(a1-r1) is in black, when the DA's office takes the case, and fills in a date
in cell (w1) , I want the entire line a1-w1 to turn blue, so we can glance at
the spreadsheet to see what is still open in our office. Is there a way to
set a format that when w1 is filled out the entire line turns from black to
blue?

Thanks,

Use conditional formating.

1) Select cell A1
2) Menu Format - Conditional
3) Change Cell Value is to Formula Is
4) Add the following formula: =$W$1=""
5) Click on Format - Patterns, select the color you want
6) Press OK twice to close conditional formating
7) Copy Cell A1
8) Select cells A1:W1
9) Menu Edit - Pastespecial - Formats

When data is entered into W1 cell will be clear, if no data is entered into
W1 the first row will be blue
