Formating Text/numbers

I want to be able to type in the follwing in to excel:

001234
0123
12323458
000032

And have the Zeros stay in place and have different length
in number- I have been using #'s in the custom format,
but when the lengths vary I have a problem. Text brings
up 123+11 etc. Any ideas?

Enter values with ' in front.

i.e..
'001234
'0123
'12323458
etc.

Preformat the cells as Text, or prefix them with an apostrophe:

'001234
