Formating on all my documents lost

Hi, my laptop crashed recently and now when I run my Word application, many
of my previously normal formats - numbering, itemization, margins etc. - does
not work anymore properly. For example, when I try to make a list with
subheadings: 1., a., i., - this does not work anymore - it just does 1. and
then all margins, tabs are wrong when I try to do it manually...

What happened here and how can I fix it? -- is this related to the
Normal.doc template?

Best to ask the experts in an MS Word newsgroup. They
might recommend to re-install Word.
