YUP! Go to START, slide up to SETTINGS, slide over right to CONTROL
PANEL. When in Control Panel, click on ADD or REMOVE PROGRAMS.

Start deleting by highlighting and clicking REMOVE.

Some you will not be able to remove, particularly if you tried to
remove those manually. In that case try the UNINSTALL part of the
program, or load the disk back on to the HDD, then go into ADD/REMOVE
and REMOVE the program. Still others, you may have to go into SAFE mode
by REBOOTING and clicking on F8. Select Safe Mode. Then start deleting
or Removing.

After that..well, wait til the next guy comes along with a better idea!

Formatting the drive does *not* do what you want. It erases
everything, *including* the operating system.

You can delete any non-operating system files you want by
selecting them and pressing delete, but before you delete
anything, please explain exactly what you are trying to
accomplish and why. What you're asking for is unlikely to be the
solution to any problem you're having.

It might actually be simpler/faster/easier to format your hard drive and
reinstall Windows XP. You do have an XP CD, don't you?

I have done all that you have suggested. I am always uncomfortable with
formatting hard drive. I have an XP prof upgrade disk. Am not sure I
understand the destructions to format though.
