Format markers & control codes

Hello, I have Word 2002. I have a table giving trouble which I think is
caused by extraneous format markers inherited from an earlier version of
word. The markers appear in light grey when I use the reveal format markers
icon on the toolbar. I can see them, but how do I get rid of them?

Hi KK

First, read through this article:

What do all those funny marks, like the dots between the words in my
document, and the square bullets in the left margin, mean?
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm

That will help you identify each marker. You will then be able to decide
which to delete and which to leave alone (and which you can't delete,
such as the end-of-cell marker).

The fact that they're grey just tells you that the colour for the
relevant text or paragraph is grey. For example, the paragraph mark (¶)
is displayed in the font, colour, size and formatting of the paragraph.

Hope this helps.
