Hey, i recently bought windows xp home for my computer, was planning on
changing it from winxp pro oem that a friend put on it. my computer is
overrun with ad/spyware and viruses etc, and there are the odd left
overs from previous programs that i uninstalled, long story short i
want to format the HD but when i check 'New Installation (Advanced)
when i'm installing it it just installs over xp pro, leaving all the
data intact, does anyone know how i can format the HD and save the
CD-Drive drivers so i can install xp home?

much appreciated, EBB

Don't try to start the installation from within Windows.

After having backed up or otherwise safe-guarded/preserved any
important data files, simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
