How do i format the harddrive

Boot into DOS using a FAT-style bootdisk (win9x, winme), choose not to load
CD-ROM drivers (they aren't necessary and it makes the boot process
quicker). Once everything has initiated, simply type "format X:" (without
quotes), replacing X with the letter corresponding to the drive you wish to
format.

I'm sure one can do this with XP-style boot disks, but I haven't tried;
leave well enough alone I suppose.

Greetings

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary to
partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow Windows XP
to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your omputer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website of
the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any available
Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter and audio drivers.

Let's see if I understand correctly, you want to format
your hard drive with the current operating system? If you
do this, you will NOT have any operating system on that
drive AND WILL LOSE ALL of your stuff. Is this what you
are wanting to do?

If your plan is to reinstall Windows XP cleanly, you don't need
to format the drive first. Just boot from the Windows CD and
follow the prompts; it will take care of formatting it for you.

Hi!
Enter the BIOS and change the 1st boot preference as CD-ROM,save the
changes and restart the machine with original XP CD inside,follow the on
screen instructions.
The set up menu will appear -simply delete the exsisting partition and
create a new one.Now format the primary partition preferably on NTFS
platform.
