During a partition re-size using Partition Magic there was
a power cut and although my data is still there PM can no longer do
partition work and my C: drive is only 6Gig

Will I be able to format my C drive and re-install XP
I have the full XP home CD

I don't know why not. Just boot with the CD. It should let you delete
whatever is there and start over.

Looks like you need to clean up your HD (remove all partitions), create a
new partition, format the HD (NTFS or FAT32), and then re-install Windows.

How do I do that?

If you do not understand partitioning, formatting, and OS installation
steps - ask a knowledgeable friend to do it for you - or better yet - look
it up on Google and do it yourself.

Yes - You do it as part of a reinstall of the system after booting the
XP CD direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New
Install. When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete
the current partition(s) and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the
next stage. Especially in this case where the apparent partitions are
in confusion

The important point is the delete. Without that it will just go ahead
and make a new install over the top of the old one

If you can get in at all to back up data, rescue what data you can first
