I have a 10 Gig Hard Disk and cannot format up to 10 Gig with DOS format.

I want to install Win 98 on my disk.

Would you know where I can get a Driver or Program to let me format my whole
hard disk in 1 partition of 10 Gig.

In fdisk did you choose Y (yes) to having a LBA drive?

Second: does your motherboard bios recognize partitions of that height?

If your board is 4 years old or older the bios may not be able to read a hdd
over 2 or 8 gigs properly.

For elucidation's sake what did fdisk recognize the size of the drive you
wanted to format as?

Hi Jan,

My Bios did recognise LBA drive but the fdisk (Dos 6) did not let me to
format the whole disk.

Is there any Utililties to format and partition the whole hard disk
whithout using Dos Fdisk ??

What did Fdisk show? How large of a drive did it let you partition?

The version of FDISK that came with ME will work.
It's available as a download from microsoft.

FDISK from DOS 6 WONT as it is only FAT16 therefore limited to a 2GB
partition with 64k clusters.

Get a Win98 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com

I don't think Dos 6 will format a drive that large as one partition. Why
are you trying to use dos 6 if you are going to win 98 ? If you have a win
98 upgrade disc you do not have to have it on the hard drive, just start
using the win 98 boot floppy disk and formatting from there. If you do not
have the boot disk go to bootdisk.com and download one . Win 98 upgarde
disc will then ask you to insert a few of the floppies .

Thank You to all of You as I received an overwhelming help. As you can see,
my PC is quite of piece of Antique.

The problem may be that the BIOS of your motherboard may not recognize a
harddrive as large as 10GB if it's an older motherboard.

Howdy!

ButOfCourse. DOS 6 was limited to 2G per logical drive.

What OS do you want to use with it? Use the appropriate disk prep
tools for THAT OS, instead.
