I do a lot of letters and would like to do form letters to save lots of time.
How do I go about doing a form letter?

Presumably you are talking about a mail merge. See the following articles:

No what I mean is once you have saved a letter and wish to send it so someone
else but change certain things such as date, name etc. How do I mark those
items in the letter that would need to be changed each time?

You can save it as a protected form, using form fields (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm and especially
the forms tutorials by Dian Chapman that this article links to) or you can
use MacroButton NoMacro fields where you want to enter text (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/UsingMacroButton.htm).
