Word 2000.....on several existing documents when inserting a form field the
background of the form field remains white. If I turn the paragraph marker
on then 5 circles appear indicating where the form field is. If I insert a
form field on any new documents then the background on the form field is
displayed with its normal gray background. What needs to be done with these
other documents so the form field background is diplayed as its normal gray?

With the form unprotected, click on the Form Field Shading button on the
Forms toolbar.

Thank you Suzanne. The Field Shading button was missing from my toolbar.
Things were easy after I added it!
