In German, French, and Spanish vowels are used with extra additions, like the
umlaut in German, accant grave in Fench etc. How can I get to these letters
using a normal English keyboard?

Here's a Quick & Dirty answer: As a general rule, press Ctrl+accent
followed by the character you want accented. For example, Ctrl+' followed by
e yields é. Some accents are obvious, such as ' ` ~ ^, but others such as ü
are not (Ctrl+Shift+' followed by u).

Actually, you get ü by pressing Ctrl+colon (Ctrl+Shift+;), then u. The colon
looks like an umlaut sideways, so it's not totally unintuitive.

Note that Ctrl+Shift+; *is* the colon. Ctrl+" is Ctrl+Shift+'. It may be
that you're just as terrible a typist as I am. The fingers at the right end
of my right hand are easily confused. <g>
