Forcing 'Reset to Style'

In Word 2002, how can I force a paragraph to reset itself to the
applicable paragraph style?

Often when a document has been converted from another word processing
program, paragraphs will have a certain look and a certain style
name. After I modify that style to change the look, the paragraph
still looks the same as it did before I made the modification. Since
the style now has the settings I want, it should be sufficient to
'tell' the paragraph to use those settings; how do I do that?

Select the entire paragraph (including the hidden paragraph mark at the
end). Apply the style using the pull-down menu. When asked if you want to
update your style to match formatting or reapply the style, check the option
to reapply the style.

Otherwise, if you have a number of such paragraphs and they are not
contiguous, save your document and then save it again using Save As to make
a copy with a different name. Select All (Ctrl-A), Ctrl-Q, Ctrl-Spacebar.
This clears all manually applied formatting and all character formatting.
Paragraphs should revert to the formatting set in their styles.

I told you to work in a copy because you may want to check through your
document carefully after doing this to make sure you didn't clear formatting
that you wanted to retain.
