Forcing client PCs to run auto update?

D

Dr Zoidberg

We have a mixed bunch of client PCs here split between 2k and XP (plus a
few 98 laptops).
Whilst I can enable automatic update on a machine by machine basis is there
a way of enabling this for the whole domain , both to save time and to
prevent people disabling it.

You can use the GPO on the PDC emulator of your W2K domain to change client
settings for Windows Update in:
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Update

In addition you could install M$ SUS onto one of your W2K Servers which will
provide you with the resources for M$ Updates on your internet network.
Currently SUS only provides updates for W2K and XP. You can force clients
to scan the SUS daily/whenever the computer boots.
