force bios redetect hdd's

Anyone know how to cause the BIOS to redetect hard drives during the
boot process without causing a reboot? DOS or Windows is lot loaded
yet so all that is available to me is INT 13h or direct vectors into
the BIOS

You could try to disable "quick boot" or whatever option you have in
your own machine's bios.
