force authenticate to local DC server

how do i force our worksations to authenticate to the local domain controller.Currently they seem to randomly log into any of our 20+ controllers over the WAN. problem: when chages our made it take hours to replicate through the forest. if we just made the changes in our OU(while connected to our loacl DC) and knew the worksations would authenticate to our local DC server, many problems could be solved on the spot.

You need to configure AD sites. Sites control authentication traffic and
replication traffic. If sites are properly configured then the client will
attempt to logon to a DC within it's site. There is a step by step guide to
