For the strangest IE problem, see this one.

Dear Pros,

My server is running Linux, Apache, and ColdFusion Enterprise.

The problem occurs when I visit my site, www.inesscents.com, and
graphics randomly do not show up in MSIE 6 (with latest 8/20/2003
patches). They are NOT broken images or red Xs - they simply do not
get displayed. It's almost as if the binary data never got to the
client...

This was tested on Win 98 to XP, and while some computers worked
perfectly, others didn't (tested from various networks). On the Mac
and Netscape 7 (PC), everything is flawless all the time.

The interesting part is that it most often occurs after you click on
"Amber Resin" on the top menu. Everything will be fine until it's
clicked, after which no graphics show and even Help -> About Internet
Explorer seems to blank out. This sequence will cause IE to choke up
every time on some of my test machines.

The strange thing is the randomness of its occurence, and the fact
that it is not caused by any particular platform. When visiting an
HTML-only site on the same server, the same thing happens, so it can't
be ColdFusion.

I've investigated Apache MIME, but it's not an issue. It's not the
graphics themselves, it's not ColdFusion, it's not Windows, it's not
IE6. There is no isolation of the problem... can anyone out there put
me at peace?

Appreciate the response.

Hi Ambrose - Well, FWIW - A lot of stuff on your site blocks for me when
using AdShield because of the /shop sub-domains. If I put you in my
Exclude list, everything seems to display fine. You might want to consider
re-naming some of these pages and not using names involving key terms on
which ads are detected and blocked. Maybe other ad blockers are being
affected by this as well?

I even loaded a packet sniffer and watched the "traffic",
no problems noticed .......
FYI: I too run AdShield (Xp Pro/ IESp1) and had no problems at all

The solution.

Apparently, it was the JPGs that were corrupt. A few of them tool
forever to load on these "bugged" machines, while others rendered them
flawlessly (as proven by the fellows who responded). That's another
mystery.
