footnote in cell

I would like to put a footnote number, say ie 1 in the cell with an existing number that counts, the footnote however is just a notation that is noted in the body of the spreadsheet and explains what ever is in that cell.

Have you tried:

<Insert> <Comment> ?

Hi
footnotes are not supported in Excel. Best thing you could do is add a
comment ('Insert - Comment'). You could also print them at the bottom
of your sheet (set this option in 'File - Pagesetup')

You can enter a 1 and format it as superscript so it will look like a
footnote.
