footnote error?

First, let me point out that menu captions referred to here and the like are
my translations, snice I'm using a Swedish version of Word 2003. Anyway, when
adding a footnote, one has two options: either menu
Insert->Reference->Footnotes and Endnotes, and then clicking "Insert" after
making some choices ... or you can press CTRL-ALT-F. The first way doesn't
work for me though. When I press the "Insert" button in the dialog box that
appears, Word keep telling me "The value of Begin With for this must be a
number between 1 and 16833 for this format". Well, it is! I've tried lots of
different numbers, and I've tried different formats. So, surprisingly, the
second (keyboard shortcut) way works! But...it does not work the way I'd like
it to work. I'd like footnotes to appear on the same page and be renumbered
on every page, which are clearly not the default options. Please help! It
can't be that difficult. Is it an application error or what have I missed?
Thanks!

After you've inserted a footnote using Ctrl+Alt+F, you should be able to
open the Footnote dialog, select your desired settings, and click Apply
instead of Insert. If that still gives you the error message, then I don't
know what to suggest.
