footer problem

Sandy,

Where are you typing the footer? Click View>Header and
Footer. When the Header and Footer toolbar pops up, click
the third icon from right to toggle to the footer area.
Click the little open book (page setup) icon and
choose "different first page." Type in your first page
footer.

To add to what Greg has said, View | Header and Footer puts you in the
Header pane. To switch to the footer, click the "Switch Between Header and
Footer" button on the Header and Footer toolbar. Then click Page Setup and
choose "Different first page." When you OK out of Page Setup, you'll see
that your Footer has become First Page Footer, and you can put your
first-page footer information there.

Thanks to you both for your help with this. The part
about going into page setup was the part I was not doing.
