Footer box hidden

Hi,
When I'm on a new wookbook (Excel 2007) I can click on menu item "insert",
then "header & footer". In the spreadsheet a white box pops up in the center
top of the page. I scroll down to the bottom of the page and there is a gray
message that says "Click to add footer". Then I can click to the left of it
and another box shows up for a left justified footer.
But when I'm in my very complex spreadsheet I can't see the footer
message/box when I scroll down. Any trick to finding that darn box? I
understand how it supposed to work and where its supposed to be from the
blank sheet, but can't get it to work in my real spreadsheet. I'm new to
2007 and this is very frustrating. I tried putting in an automatic footer
(Page 1) but when I tried to click to edit it, nothing happened.

Another way to get to the footer (and header) is

Office Button > Print > Print Preview > Page Setup > Header/Footer > Custom
Footer
