Fonts change names when copying

Hi,

Anyone know why the names of fonts (truetype I think) change names when I
copy them to a different folder? This even happens if I zip the files.
Example:"Scruff LET Plain; 1.0 (truetype)" becomes "8918_.TTF"

Thanks!

All applications used to print within WindowsXP go to the default
Font directory (C:\Windows\Fonts) for font utilization. Copying a
font to another directory/folder/file would create confusion. There
is no reason to have more than one name on your harddrive for a
font. If you want to make font copies, copy them to a CD or external
storage device such as a thumb drive. Some apps have their own
specific font for utilization within that app only.

When you look at fonts in the Fonts folder, Explorer displays the font's
name from the file header. That's not the same as the filename. When you
copy them to another location, the filename is displayed.

Right on! That was it. Seems only the font folder shows the font name. I'm
a graphic designer with lots of fonts. I keep a backup of all my fonts and
thats tha folder I was talking about.
