Fonts and Styles Show Arabic Language Characters

To my surprise, Arabic language characters show up alongside the English ones
in the styles and fonts menus. Also at the bottom of the Word screen (the
status bar) next to the grayed out OVR, it now reads "English(U.S".

I need to know how to fix this -- I write only in English (US).

Assuming you have Windows XP, click on Start | All Programs | Microsoft
Office Tools | Microsoft Office Language Settings | Enabled Languages, and
remove the enabled languages you don't need from the list of enabled
languages on the right side of the dialog box.

Thanks --
I did remove Arabic from the 'Enabled' list but when I do Format-Style, the
selected style shows in English along with its Arabic counterpart. The
'English (US' message is still in the bottom status bar.

If you can think of anything else (including reinstalling the SW), I'm open
and grateful.

Before reinstalling, try setting the default language of the Normal style to
English. To do this, click on Format | Styles and Formatting | Normal |
Modify | Format | Language | English | Default | OK | check the "Add to
template" box | OK. If you are prompted to save normal.dot when you exit
Word, say yes.

Thanks again, but still no.

I don't even have the option of clicking of default button -- it's grayed
out. English US is selected as the Language.

I'll try to rename my Normal.dot and see what happens when Word creates a
new Normal.dot. Maybe that will reset the languages back to what they should
be.
