font stopped working

Sometime back I developed a true type font using Data Becker's 'Your
Handwriting'. Essentially I embedded a company logo as one of the
characters. It has worked fine until today. Now XP Pro refuses to recognize
this file as a valid font. I had a backup on another computer, so I deleted
the file and tried to install another copy of the font. XP insists that it
is a bad font file. Which is silly because the font runs fine on the Win98
machine I copied it from.

I suspect one of the recent Microsoft security patches. Any ideas?

To test your theory, "roll back" the updates using System Restore. It won't
affect data and settings. Then, add back the Updates one at a time,
rebooting and testing after each, to find the culprit.
Help and Support: type "system restore"

I had hoped I wouldn't have to spend the time spinning my PC clock backwards
but...

I have notified Microsoft of a problem with patch KB824141, for a buffer
overflow problem in list and combo boxes.

This patch sees some True Type fonts as corrupted, when in fact they are
just fine.

I built these fonts several years ago under Win98 using Data Becker's "Your
Handwriting". One critical font has my company's logo as one of the
characters, which enables me to display my logo in any text-only application
that has True Type support; for example, my return address in Word's
envelope printing function.

"spend the time"
?? It takes 2 minutes!

Same thing happened to me, on two separate computers:
Databecker's fonts stop being recognized as valid. I
downloaded the new version of the program, and its fonts
are broken too. I've notified databecker's support,
although I don't expect much help.

Sigh.

I've got a fix! I had the same problem. But, go to www.
high-logic.com and get their Font Creator product. (I
actually found it at www.webattack.com). It opened my
Databecker ttf file. Select & copy all the characters (^A
^C) from your old font. Use the "Create a new font" option.
Select all and paste in your old characters. You should see
all your old characters in the new font's window. Use
WinExplorer to delete the old font (yes, it lets you do
that without first closing it in Font Creator) and save the
new fonts under your old font's name. Install.

The program costs $50. The trial version runs for 30 days
and seems to be full functionality. I'm buying it anyway
because it did $50 worth of work (saved my tuchus actually)
and because Databecker apparently no longer will let me
edit and save my home-made fonts.

Your post came at the right time for me, since I upgraded to XP I have been
unable to open quite a few font files as they were all coming up as invalid
,
I actually had an earlier version of Font Creator that I had forgotten about
so I installled it and it did the job beautifully so thank you very much :-)

Regards Frances
