font size

I am very new to web design. I was wondering why I have to use smaller and
smaller font (I am now using 8pt font) in century gothic to get the type to
be normal size. Even now, it seems too big. When I go down to 7 or 8 point
font it is a lot smaller so I think I am doing something wrong. any thoughts?
