Font size in Design view is not transfered to Browser view

Hi. I'm a new user to Frontpage. I have built up a 7 page site which looks
fine in design view but when looking at it in Preview all the font sizes are
the same, the text, which I set out using layers, perhaps because the font
seen in Preview is much smaller, now seems all over the place. I've
published the site and it looks exactly like it does in the preview view with
the exception that only one page can be seen and the navigation bar is
missing. Help!!!

Looks fine here. Next time though, don't forget to put the entire URL in as
your site is inaccessible without the www in front
(http://www.cotswoldbusinessconsultancy.co.uk)

Something to check on, open Internet Explorer and make sure the View | Text
Size is set to Medium. Otherwise your text in the browser and in the
preview mode will be off as the preview mode is an embedded version of IE
and uses IE's settings for it's defaults.

In your navigation view in FP, you may want to change the names of the
pages. Normally FP just uses the filename of the page as a default, but it
will then generate the navigation buttons with these names (like
about_us.htm, etc.).

Hope this helps,

I can only see the one page, and there is no navigation bar (Firefox
and IE6). All the text, although rather bigger than one would normally
expect to see on business sites, is of uniform size.

Hi Stephan
Thanks for responding. When I look at the site in the preview screen it
looks exactly as it looks on the web, i.e. with all the text at the same
size. It should show text at 5 point and 7 point.
The site that is loaded now is a previous unfinished one which I loaded out
of desperation!
To give you an idea of what I've tried, I have removed and reloaded
Frontpage 2003 and deleted every website file I had created on the off chance
it was some residual bug in a file causing problems.
I have opened a new page in a new website, typed in 3 lines of data using 3
different sizes of font (3, 5, and 7 point), but when viewed in Preview
(which should show the same as what will show on the web I presume), it still
shows three lines at 3 point size.
However, it seems like the problem is not with FP 2003.
A friend has given me a copy of frontpage XP that he had used in the past
and knows it works. I have once against removed FP 2003 and loaded this XP
version up, only to have the same problem. IE Text Size is set to medium and
makes no difference if I change it. Any ideas as to the cause will be
greatly appreciated!

HI Stephan
Thanks for that, absolutely perfect now!
Out of interest, when you're developing your sites, what screen resolution
do you base it on or use on your screen? I usually have my screen set 1280
x 1024 for everyday office work, but this obviously makes any website at
lower resolutions look massive, not to mention ugly, especially if I've
filled the screen with text! On the other hand, I've looked at a site where
the writing was so small you couldn't read it without a magnifying glass!

You realize that 5pt type is awfully small to view on the web, in fact it
maybe too small to display properly/ It takes a minimum of 9 pixels to
display a mixed font with lowercase letters. It take a minimum of 7px to
display all caps. On the default windows screen setting of 96ppi (pixel per
inch) your 5pt font is too small to display since 5pt equal 6.66 pixels
(1.33 pixels per point). If you visitors are using a Mac its default is 72
ppi which means they would only have 5px available to display your 5pt type.

Also, points are for print and not for web display. Because you can print at
5 point since most printers have at least 300 dpi (dots per inch or 4.17dots
per point - see the difference).

FYI, at my screen resolution there are 140 pixel per inch. That means even
your largest print would be less than 14th of an inch high. Since you are
using points (pixels have the same problem) IE will not allow them to be
resized so it would be impossible for me or anyone with a high resolution
monitor to read your pages comfortably.

Also, you have a whole bunch of Word code that will affect your display as
well as using a font that may not be on a lot of your viewer's computers -
Century Gothic.

The web is not print and you are constrained by the fact that computer
screens, even the best of them are low resolution devices compared to print
and the fonts need to be sized accordingly.

Clarification 140 physical pixels per inch not pixel per inch as defined in
the MS display resolution. So unlike a traditional printed page Instead of
72pts per inch I have 149 pt in a physical inch. So my type is half the size
of a printed point.

HI Cheryl
Yes, you're right of course. My mistake, I was confusing size with point,
size 5 being 18 point. Thanks also for the advice about the font. Not sure
what I thinking using that font anyway!
