Font Problems in Autotext

When I enter an Autotext option in Header/Footer it appears as a series of
blank squares, sometime followed by the entry, or as text in a Chinese
looking font. I have not made any changes to the font AFAIK. The same thing
happens when I use an Autotext entry in the text of a Word document. What
have I done?
