Does anyone know of a good font plugin for Powerpoint (I'm using 2003)? I
don't understand why the font styles in Powerpoint are so limited. I would
like to be able, for example, to choose the shadow colour etc, as I can
within Photoshop, without having to go to an external program to create text
as separate files. Is this possible?

Powerpoint only has the following native text effects:

On the text formatting toolbar
- bold italic underline
- drop shadow (fixed to either black or white)

On the format > font menu
- underline
- shadow
- emboss
- superscript
- subscript

- regular
- bold
- italic
- bold italic

On the drawing toolbar there are some further effects that can be applied to
most objects including text:

- Another Shadow (with lots more control, including being able to select the
color and position)

If you want to make the odd word look different, then wordart is not as bad
as people make out. Some quick examples of shadow effects
