i boot up yesterday and everything came up gibberish, all
the fonts (for the menus etc) came up as dingbats.

my directory displays were all in dingbats, it was hard to
navigate through file explorer since everything is in
dingbats, i finally found my way to c:\windows\fonts
directory, and it was empty!

using my usb flash drive, i made a copy of the
c:\windows\fonts of my other pc and copied the fonts to
the empty directory.

here is the bad part. after copying the fonts, i closed
the file explorer. when i open a new file explorer and
point it to c:\windows\fonts, the directory is empty!

i've done this more than a few times already. i'd copy
fonts to the c:\windows\fonts directory using file
explorer, the fonts all shows up in file explorer. then i
close the file explorer. when i open a new file explorer
and point it to c:\windows\fonts, the directory is empty.

i've virus scanned quite a few times already, using mcafee
1/14/2004 dat file, and everything came out clean.

am i missing a switch or registry entry somewhere?

tia.

Try a System Restore to before you experienced the problem (and before
you tried to fix it).
