Jonathan Kay replied to by post "0x81000301 error." while i tried all of his possible soultions, none of them worked. i was, a few days later, able to sign on to msn. but, after i signed off a few hours later, i was no longer able to sign back on. this makes me pose the question: does my computer need a reformat? if so, this is a rediculous way to have to solve a seemingly simple problem, and microsoft should be able to invest a few dollars and an hour of their time to fix it. these are the sort of problems that make people consider switching to apple computers and other instant messaging systems. my aim account works just fine. i've never had an error.

could this problem be the result of a firewall provided my centurytel, my dsl isp

again, a response is greatly appreciated!

Here is a tip that I believe will solve your problem.

Get the 6.0 version of Messenger from www.oldversion.com.

The 6.1 version is the buggiest piece of publically released software I have
ever seen.

Many people have problems with the 6.1 version, cant sign in, kicked out
right after signing in etcetera.

I threw away the 6.1 version after a week of agony, reinstalled the 6.0
version and have not had a problem since.

Also, I am pretty sure the Messenger "MVP" knows that installing the 6.0
would cure many problems. But he probably cant advice users to downgrade in
fear of upsetting Microsoft and losing his beloved MVP status.

Just my $0.02.
