Right, after three months somethong strange has happened in Windows Mail. The
folders on the right hand side of the screen have vanished.
(inbox, sent, deleted etc.) I can get them back by clicking on local folders
and then double clicking each one in turn. However when I close down W.M. and
start up again, I have to go through that process again. any ideas on how to
resolve this?

I tell you what, I had Outlook Express for years and it never gave me any
trouble. Why, oh why did Microsoft have to change something for the worse?

Any 'simple' help would be appreciated without mucking anything else up.

Thanks a lot

Am I the only person that this happened to as no one has been able to come
up with a reply yet?

Thanks

Thanks for that Mac, but sadly I am no further forward. Can any one explain
why Microsoft launched Windows Mail when clearly it is not fit for purpose.
Having read these problems on this site over the last three months it is
clearly a disgrace that these problems were not sorted before selling it to
the public. If you buy a car, tv ot whatever you expect it to be a 100%
perfect. I can not believe what has been wriiten on this site. If this was
any other product the Trading Standards Officer would have a field day.
Sorry to rant but it is so frustrating when it does not work properly. Bring
back Outlook Express.

They should have waited or at the very least let Outlook Express be
compatable with Vista.

I did not respond to your previous post because I found it rather
confusing. I have never seen folders on the right side of the screen.
For me they have always been on the left side of the screen.

If Windows Mail does not meet your expectations, you are welcome
to upgrade to the new and improved Windows Live Mail:

Mmmm, it would be alright if W.M. had only 11 faults! However if you had
bought the said car, you would have taken it back and have it fixed. Sadly
this is not the case with W.M. as a lot of the stuff seems un fixable. If
that attitude was accepted the airoplanes would be dropping out of the sky
because there were problems with the software that was still being rectified,
if you get what I mean. So yes I am in the real world and if I am unfortunate
to buy something faulty it goes back and money is refunded. That is the law
in the U.K. I think you are missing the point, if you buy something you
expect it to work. .

Sorry, Gary, I meant left. Anyway all I can get on the left is local
folders,in box and the link to Microsoft communities unless I click on local
folders and double click on drafts, sent etc. It was always fine and then all
of a sudden they vanished. There must be a way to restore them back to the
way they were.

If I up graded to W.L.M. I assume I will have to re set the account,
connections etc. Does it replace W.M. or does it run side by side, what I
mean is can I still use W.M whilst I try and set up W.L.M.

Thanks for your help and excuse prvious rants...just letting off my
frustrations.

It can gather most of what it needs from Windows Mail's database.
It hides, but does not remove, Windows Mail, so you may have to
create a new shortcut for Windows Mail to make it easy to run them
side by side.

If you have more questions about Windows Live Mail, you may get
answers to them faster if you ask them in this newsgroup:

There are ways to 'reset' Windows Mail to a clean slate, but it
is very laborious, and (in my opinion) not worth the effort. I understand
your frustration with WM.

WLM's installer will automatically import your WM accounts,
settings, rules, folders, and emails. You may have to import
contacts manually, but that is easily done.

I just broght up WLM on an XP machine and it imported all the contacts
automatically. Nice job. Everything came up painlessly.

Well, last night after all my frustrations with this problem ,it is back to
working as normal without me having to do anything about it. Unless there was
some update that happened, it is all very strange.
