Folders within My Documents won't open through applications

I've saved and used many files and folders within My Documents. However,
since last week, when I attempt to open the any of the folder within My
Documents, they will not open from within any applications. For example, from
Word, when I go to File, Open and click twice on the any folders it will not
open at all, and consequently, Word will crash. I, however, can open any
files that are not within any particular Folders.

Furthermore, from the desktop, when I go to My Computer and explore My
Documents, I can open any files or folders in the same location.

It's the most bizzare problem I've ever come across. There is nothing wrong
with the file or folders because I can open them, and the files within them,
by clicking twice on them. But if I attempt to open them using File, Open
menu items, they simply won't even let me access them.

I run Windows XP Home Edition, SP2, and am a Computer Administrator on the
machine. I have not set any permissions, or encrypted any files or folders.

Does anyone have any clues as to what could be the cause?

Your help would be much much appreciated.

Many thanks,

You might read this and see if it applies. Some of the symptoms you
describe I see in a myriad of posts in the Office newsgroup.

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

For XP
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip
Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

For Windows 2000 systems

Download it, right-click it and select Merge and confirm when asked.
