Go to Kelly's site:

and scroll down to line 15, left column 'Remove common tasks from the
desktop.'

I have noticed this problem repeated by many people in many posts. I had the problem myself and used the fix at www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (as specified)

However, nowhere have I found an explanation as to why this problem occurs. Is it an XP bug? Virus? Adware

Just curious!

A registry key goes missing for unknown reasons. It is treated as a normal folder. The regkey stops it being treated as a normal folder (as the desktop is just a folder window like My Documents but sizes to the monitor and with a transparent background.)
