Folder Shortcuts in Dialog Boxes

I cannot use shortcuts in either the "Open" or "Save As"
dialog box.

I ask whoever is willing to perform this simple test:

1.) In your My Documents, create a folder called "TEST"

2.) Create a desktop shortcut to the "TEST" folder -- it
will be named "Shortcut to TEST"

3.) Open Notepad (for this example)

4.) In Notepad, choose File > Save As; you now see
the "Save as" Dialog Box

5.) In the "Save in" dropdown near the top of the "Save
as" Dialog Box, choose "Desktop"

Now, do you see your "Shortcut to TEST"? I don't see
mine. In Windows 2000 I did -- I could double-
click "Shortcut to TEST" and I'd be taken to the "TEST"
folder under My Documents.

6.) In the "Save as type" dropdown near the bottom of
the "Save as" Dialog Box, choose "All files"

You should now see EVERYTHING on the Desktop. But try
double-clicking on "Shortcut to Desktop" -- Windows thinks
I want to save my file as "Shortcut to TEST.lnk"!

I commonly save new files and documents to folders DEEP in
our network, like:

P:\Accounts\Clients\Documents\2003\Billing\ (etc.)

Not being able to use a shortcut to get there means a lot
of extra clicking -- which I did not have to do in Windows
2000.

I cannot figure this out. If nobody else is having this
problem, then maybe it's time for me to backup my system
and reinstall XP.

Thanks for your time.

You can't save it in a shortcut which is on your desktop
save it in the test folder in My Docs.

Thank you for the reply. My point is that in Windows
2000, I COULD use the desktop shortcut to go straight to
my target folder. With XP, when saving to a folder buried
on my network, I have to spend a lot more time navigating
to the folder, whereas I could simply double-click on a
shortcut in the Save As dialog box when I was using
Windows 2000.
