How can I set a specific password for a shared folder
rather than setting permissions for users. The data I
want to secure should only be seen by a small number of
users not everybody within in a Group. I also do not
want to set permissions for specific user as access may
be gained from those specific machines.

Hope you can help

You can't assign passwords, since NTFS is permissions based. You could try encrypting the files, or using 3rd party software that does allow for individual passwording of files/folders. You can also ZIP the contents, of the folder and assign a password to that ZIP folder.

Hello Kevan,

I do not understand the following part of your statement -

"I also do not want to set permissions for specific user as access may be
gained from those specific machines."

A machine account and user account are two different things. If you want
specific users to have access, then you ACL the share for those users only.
If you are talking about other unapproved users having access to machines
where the approved users are logged on, then this is a different issue.
This is user education about locking your system when you are away from it.

If this is not what you meant, please post a more precise explanation of
your specific scenerio.

Best regards,

If you do not want all in some group to have access
then you are using the wrong group. You can always
define a custom group with ouly the desired accounts
as its members.

If perhaps you restate your concerns we could better
understand and so state for you how the Windows model
may accomplish your objectives.
