Folder redirection of Application Data and Outlook 2003

Hi everyone,

I have a server with an evaluation version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Entreprise Edition and two machines with Windows XP Pro with SP2.
In the server I have enabled the policy to redirect Application Data to a
share folder on the Server.
Everything works fine with all the aplication including Eudora and
Wordperfect Mail. By default this applications store the mail in the user
application folder so I could have access to my email on both the machines.
I installed Outlook 2003 in one of the machines to see if I could have the
same funcionality and I am a bit lost of how I can store my email messages,
calendar data and address book redirected in the application data folder on
the server.
For example Wordperfect Mail automatically does that so appart from
installing the apllication on the PC no extra configuration is needed because
the user setting are in the application folder in the Server.
Microsoft says that Outlook Express cannot store the email on a share folder
but Outlook can do it! How can this be done without a Exchange Server and
with the folder redirection enabled in the Server?
Regards,
Daniel

no idea about outlook express -this is an outlook group - See if
http://www.insideoe.com has the information you need.

Outlook stores the pst file in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and it can be changed to use
another location, but the data needs stored on the local machine, otherwise
you risk losing every thing if the file gets corrupt. To do this, roaming
profiles is usually best as it will copy the file back and forth (although
it will cause a lot of network congestion if the file is huge.)

Hi Diane,

Thanks for your reply and I know that this forum is about Outlook and not OE.

My question was about Outlook. I cannot use Roaming Profiles because my
machines have very diferent hardware setting so I instead use the redirection
of the Aplicattion Data folder to share the same setting for several
application.

I ask you if I can move Outook pst files to the server application folder
and If so how can I do it?

Thanks,
Daniel

move the file and then open outlook -file, open, outlook data file. But
network access is not supported and can result in corrupt storage files.
You'll be better off to use log on and log off scripts to copy the pst to
and from the network drive.
