Hello...

There's a folder on my server that is "...not accessed . Access
is denied". I suspect the folder should have been deleted, but
there's some kind of remnant remaining. I can't view it, can't
delete it, can't do anything with it.

I cannot change any attributes of the folder, and there is not a
tab for sharing properties so I cannot take ownership. I cannot
delete it from a client logged on as the folders' creator, or
from the server logged on as administrator. I can not rmdir
either. Basically I can not view or alter or delete the folder
from anywhere as anyone.

Getting into safemode is inconvenient since this is a "always in
use" server.

This mutant folder is causing my backups to result as "failed"
so I need to clear this up.

Any suggestions?

Thx,
D.

And there are other ways to get around this, too. But the ways and means are often better done on a system that has the ability to be rebooted. But the link above does have a good idea about using the Process Explorer.

As for the backup failures; can you 'exclude' this subdir until you get down-time available?

And always try the MS KB first before posting.
The answer is probably already posted.

That article applies to files that incorrectly show they're
in use, but the Process Explorer is a nice utility. Even
though isn't helping in this instance, I'll keep it around.
Those folks at Sysinternals do good work.

In the meantime, I've excluded the offending folder from
the backup job, though I'm a bit chagrined I didn't think
of that sooner. ;-/

Thanks. Appreciate it,
D.
